Greens, Greens, and More Greens!

When it comes to eating greens there are two types of people. Some avoid eating vegetables due to taste, texture, and other personal preferences, while others are constant green eaters, but struggle with produce turning before it can be finished. Regardless of which person you are, keep reading, these tips are for you!

Greens are nutrient-dense

We all know that vegetables are good for us, but do we know why? Leafy greens and other veggies are packed with vitamins and minerals that benefit our health. Additionally, they contain fiber which is essential for digestive health, making everything run smoother. To all the green lovers, keep up what you’re doing! For all the green avoiders, I hope this motivates you! There are only benefits to consuming greens!

How to get around the taste: leafy greens

Everyone’s palate is different; there is no shame in disliking the taste of greens. That being said, there are many ways to squeeze them into your diet, without giving up taste preferences.

One easy way to sneak in greens is through smoothies. Adding a fresh cup of spinach or celery to a smoothie is hardly recognizable when using your favorite fruits, yogurt, or whatever else you love in your smoothies! Adding greens also gives smoothies a satisfying green color, giving you another reason to be proud to eat greens!

This is also a great idea to finish greens that will soon go bad. Did you know you can freeze your leafy greens, which preserves them, and then use them beyond their shelf life? What a great way to reduce waste and benefit your health!

How to get around taste: other veggies

An easy snack/appetizer idea to help get in veggies is making pizza bites, with vegetables as the base. Zucchini and squash are good options but let yourself create as you wish! Slice up some veggies and add your favorite pizza toppings. Bake for 8 minutes at 400 degrees and enjoy! This is just one example that shows how buildable greens are; once paired with your favorite flavors they are hard to recognize!

Keep it fun

It’s been shown that with any habit, you are much more likely to stick with it if you enjoy it. So, whether you’re trying to eat more greens or waste less, challenge yourself to make this fun!
